Ayurveda for Weight Loss Obesity has assumed epidemic proportions in the developed nations. Simply defined, obesity is defined as being more than one-fifth overweight as compared to the normal weight range. Obesity has been implicated most strongly in coronary disease, and is also a contributor to the development of diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and kidney and gallbladder disorders. Obesity has also been found to be linked to an increased incidence of certain types of cancer including colon cancer, breast cancer, and cancer of the uterus, kidney and gallbladder. Enormous amounts of money are spent each year to find methods to stay thin, including drastic approaches such as obesity surgery. Ayurveda cautions us that attempts to stay artificially thin may be unhealthy and may aggravate vata dosha. Ayurvedic approaches to eating, exercising, self-massage, meditation, and the right combination of herbal food supplements are a natural way to detoxify the body of excess fats and restore balance to the physiology.
